There is a lot of literature out there. A lot. Some is pretty good. Some is less so. We here at Payson Wonder Dogs would like to recommend some of the books and resources  that we have found to be valuable in our dog training journeys.

First and foremost we highly recommend the book CLICKING WITH YOUR DOG, written and illustrated by Peggy Tillman.
It is a cheery, positive book, with simple but effective illustrations and step by step guidance for...you guessed it: clicking with your dog! Many people fear that the clicker complicates training  attempts, but once we become familiar with it's use, we find it to be a powerful tool. We have copies of this book at Wonder Dogs meetings, so feel free to take a look at it before purchasing one of your own. (It is available through AMAZON).

A set of books that I, myself, have found particularly helpful, are titled: TEAMWORK, and TEAMWORK II, A Dog Training Manual for People with Disabilities. The first, TEAMWORKBook One: Basic Obedience, is just that. Teaching your dog the ins and outs of being a well behaved dog, when you, yourself, have issues that might limit mobility, energy and strength to train an animal with more of all of these things.
TEAMWORK II, Book Two: Service Exercises is an excellent training manual and reference book to train actual service dog techniques.
These books are written by Stewart Nordensson and Lydia Kelley, both of whom have trained multiple service dogs despite their own physical limitations.
The books are full of photos of real people and their self-trained service dogs, as well as ideas for how to train,
even with limited mobility.
Again, I can provide a sample copy of both these books, to be perused at any PWD meeting, and they can be purchased through AMAZON.

I am subscribed to something called: Dr Jen's Dog Blog, that comes into my email periodically, and always has well written pointers and ideas for dog training and dog psychology.  I encourage you to check it out at: www.drjensdogblog.com. It is a free subscription, and worth much more than they charge!

CESAR MILLAN has a couple of books that are quite good reading: CESAR'S WAY, and BE THE PACK LEADER. While Payson Wonder Dog's does not use the exact same techniques he expounds, there are a lot of parallels, and I love Cesar's positive approach.

Happy Training!
